Your Configuration Management Plan

CMstat is working with industry experts in the field of configuration management to offer services including configuration management plans for companies that have no configuration management plan in place, or wish to update their plans to the latest industry standards.

Configuration Management Plans describe the methods in which consistency can be maintained through documentation control and the product’s configuration throughout the product lifecycle.

A program-specific CM Plan may be required, however most companies have established configuration management process and procedures used on the products they design and/or manufacture. For a Program-specific CM Plan, this basic information may be supplemented by new product definition, program milestone charts, and any other deviations from the existing company operations.

A comprehensive CM Plan will normally include the following topics:

- General Scope and Product Definition

- Description of configuration management processes to be applied for each configuration management discipline:

  • Configuration Planning and Management
  • Configuration Identification
  • Configuration Change Management
  • Configuration Status Accounting
  • Configuration Verification and Audit
  • Configuration Management of Digital Data
  • Organization, Roles, Responsibilities and Resources

- Definition of Terms

- Programmatic and Organizational Interfaces

- Deliverables, Milestones and Schedules

- Subcontract Flow-Down

-Supplier/Vendor Configuration Management

Traceability and Audit are critical in achieving and maintaining CMMI and ISO 9000 compliance and are a basic part of the Configuration Management Plan.

Whether or not a company has implemented a configuration management, PDM or PLM solution, it will benefit from the review of its current processes and implementing an "up to date" CM Plan.
